The hijacking operation was largely a success: the majority of extrauniversals were able to get on board the ship and they were able to safely clear Barrayaran airspace, if narrowly -- but at a cost. Both Piotr and Dorca lost soldiers in the attack, Dorca especially, as his troops were the ones breaching the heavily armed shipyard perimeter. Lakshmi and Tucker also helped buy their comrades' freedom with their lives, though Vex'ahlia and Tarn both failed to get to the Star Gate ship on time, left stranded on Barrayar for good. Natasha chose to stay behind of her own volition.

So now Natasha, Tarn and Vex are back in camp with the Barrayarans, while all the rest of the surviving extrauniversals are aboard the Star Gate ship with Micah -- along with Sonia, their surprise stowaway, and perhaps even more surprisingly, Amai, who was blackmailed into helping by Jasper and Lapis, and now has possibly passed a point of no return among her own people.

Now the Barrayarans must regroup and take advantage of the Cetagandans' current state of chaos while they can, and the rest of them…well, they'd better hope the Star Gate works.

missed connections
Roll: Use the Star Gate before you miss your chance.
Julian Bashir - SUCCEED
Agent Washington - FAIL

misdirection
Roll: Effectively spread false intel - SUCCEED
Thanks to Vex's help, the Barrayarans are able to convince the Cetagandans that they're packing up camp by setting cooking fires in uninhabited parts of the mountains, participating in decoy patrols far from their camp, and leaking false information through the villagers.

+2 LP to Vex

first aid
Roll: Treat all injured passengers on the ship - FAIL
There aren't enough hands to go around, or enough medical supplies, and there's more than one serious injury -- Julian can't fix them all. He administers as much treatment as he can, but there are some injuries he just can't do anything about with their limited supplies.

technical difficulties
Roll 1: Repair the Star Gate's brain scanner - SUCCEED
Roll 2: Reconcile the ship's power systems with the Star Gate - SUCCEED
Thanks to Wash and Kaidan's assistance, they along with Micah are able to repair the brain scanner -- a vital part of the Star Gate, as it's the only thing that can theoretically figure out just where to send them. They're also able to

defense maneuvers
Roll 1: Evasive maneuvers to avoid enemy attack - FAIL
Roll 2: Raise ship's shields - SUCCEED
Those piloting the ship aren't able to move fast enough to avoid Cetagandan fire altogether -- the ship takes one or two bad hits before the shields go up, thanks in part to Deanna's help. Unfortunately, while no one dies in the attack, those hits do enough damage to the ship that they permanently disable the Star Gate (though not immediately), cutting off Wash before he has a chance to go through.

target locked
Roll 1: Successfully re-arm nuclear missile with EMP charge instead - FAIL
Roll 2: Land a hit on the Cetagandans - N/A
Despite Miles and Byerly's best efforts, they aren't able to jerry-rig one of the nukes into an EMP missile before the Cetagandans start attacking, so while the ship can take evasive maneuvers and raise shields, they have nothing to retaliate with. Sorry, guys. You tried.

aftermath
Once the Cetagandans hit them with plasma fire, the damage to the Star Gate doesn't set in immediately, but when it does, it's as good as fried -- guess they didn't need that failsafe after all. Unfortunately, it hits before Wash can go through, leaving him stranded on the ship with Sonia, Micah, and Amai.

There isn't anything they can do to fix it in short order, or really at all, and though the ship's shields are standing up to Cetagandan attack for now, they're still outnumbered five-to-one, and with their mission accomplished, there's nothing left to do but head back planetside -- or at least try. Prior to the hijacking going down, Micah and Piotr had established an exit strategy, so to speak: provided they could pilot their way back into Barrayar's atmosphere, the plan is to land the ship as far away from any towns or cities as possible and rendezvous with a contact of Piotr's in the lakeside village of Vorkosigan Surleau, where they can lay low for a few days before trying to make their way back to camp. They do manage to land the ship -- well, it's more like a crash landing, but close enough. And before they book it for Vorkosigan Surleau, Micah makes sure to set a timed charge on the ship that will, if they've timed it right, detonate around when the Cetagandans catch up to them. Unfortunately, the explosion only takes one Cetagandan ship out of commission, but it's enough of a diversion that the four of them safely reach Vorkosigan Surleau. And then…then, finally, the Star Gate and its mission are over and done with, for better or worse.

Please comment if you have any questions! NPC starters will go up for each mission top-level with the IC log as usual, and, as always, here are the rolls for this event. All rolls are d20 unless noted otherwise; the skill ratings of 1-4 are converted into modifiers of -1 to 2. The number of people in each group is also added to the total modifier.
