And that's just as well to Daryl. He'll fight on the battlefield if he has to-- he's better with a gun than he's admitted to anyone on this stinking planet. But he's not gonna get killed for someone else's war. His life is his life, and more importantly, if he gets taken out, what will happen to Beth?

Daryl shifts from one foot to another. That's the real question, isn't it? He puts off answering the Duke's proposal (he can already hear Beth nagging him in the back of his mind, he's a count, Daryl!) in favor of a question.
