As deeply focused as he is, his state almost meditative, it would be difficult for him to miss any disturbance in his environment. Still, Beth moves quietly enough that he continues through his motions for some time before the crunch of her steps reaches his ears.

At the sound, he turns to face her, though he does so as a way of completing the arc of motion he'd already been executing. His staff completes it arc parallel to the ground, bracing against his outstretched arm as his knees bend slightly to place him in a ready crouch. As he sees that it's Beth, a smile lights softy on his face, and his straightens himself, bringing the staff upright against the ground as he does.
