WELL I'M GLAD HE'S GOING TO TRY NOT TO STAY OUT PAST DARK. smartest thing you did all day william

okay, so he's not intending to venture out any longer than about half a day, and he'll likely start wandering in circles (or some other tangled shape) because wait, didn't he just see that same rock formation two hours ago? HOW CAN YOU TELL, EVERYTHING IS COVERED IN SNOW AND ICE and it's very windy out

so he's going to roll to see if he gets home by dark, or at least not too long after, considering the limited daylight. margin of success/failure will determine just how LONG (or not) it takes for him to get back to camp. a tracking skill of 2 means a +0 modifier, and considering the complexity of the terrain and the weather, I'm going to rate this at a difficulty of 15, so he'll have to roll a 15 or higher to make it back before it gets too late.

Roll d20: 18

WELL CONGRATS, WILLIAM, YOU DID NOT LOSE ANY TOES TO FROSTBITE

He chooses a smart point at which to try to turn back and, by sheer luck, manages to make it back to camp just before sundown. He did not get a single glimpse of any nearby settlement, though.
