The LP deduction happened when I responded to your defection requests, so you're already set on that front. The LP from this plot round's events aren't affected. (You can consider the deduction technically happening after those event LP were handed out, but it amounts to the same thing.) But LP isn't assigned to one side or the other -- it's just sort of an overall estimation of how trustworthy your character is perceived to be. (And there's some gameplay and story segregation involved here, but mostly because I felt it would be way too complicated to have too separate sets of LP.)
Handwaving is totally fine! He'd just want to get a sense of where Wash's loyalties lie and what exactly his investment in this war is. He already likes Maine so he's a little more inclined to take Wash at his word. He would want to know every piece of intelligence Wash has to share about the Cetagandans, too.
